The Rendered Look, Site-Finished and Fast to Install

The EasyLap™ Panel occupies a specific niche in the Hardie™ Exteriors range: a broadwall cladding solution finished on site with a roll-on textured acrylic paint to achieve a subtle rendered facade appearance without the wet-trade render process, the drying time and the long-term cracking risk that actual masonry render carries. It’s a pre-primed fibre-cement sheet with a shiplap joint along its two vertical edges, engineered for cost-effective, uniform broadwall cladding on single- and medium-density residential projects.

One genuinely distinctive capability sets EasyLap™ apart from most broadwall products in the range: it can also be used as a substrate for external tiled wall applications, with strong hanging power capable of holding up to 50 kg of tiles per square metre. The shiplap join creates a level substrate for tiling and helps reduce the differential movement that causes grout cracking, making EasyLap™ a genuine dual-purpose product, not just a render-look cladding.

Cladding and Tile Substrate - Genuinely Dual-Purpose

As broadwall cladding

EasyLap™’s primary application: a uniform, cost-effective broadwall cladding solution finished with a site-applied textured acrylic paint to achieve a subtle rendered look. Fast to install on residential and medium-density projects where a consistent, uncomplicated facade is the brief.

As an external tile substrate

Where the design calls for external tiled wall cladding, a genuinely different aesthetic direction, EasyLap™ provides a substrate with strong hanging power (up to 50kg/m² of tiles) and a shiplap join that creates a level surface, reducing the differential movement that leads to grout cracking on external tiled applications.

Where EasyLap™ Panel Works

Volume residential and medium-density projects

EasyLap™’s cost-effective broadwall format and straightforward installation make it a practical specification for volume residential builds and medium-density developments where a uniform, render-look facade is required across multiple dwellings efficiently.

Tall feature walls

The availability of 3600mm lengths makes EasyLap™ a strong choice for tall, continuous feature walls where minimising horizontal joints is part of the design intent, double-height entries, stairwell walls and similar applications.

External tiled wall applications

Where the project brief calls for external tile cladding rather than a painted finish, EasyLap™’s tile substrate capability (up to 50kg/m² hanging power) makes it a genuinely useful dual-purpose specification without needing a separate substrate product.

Alterations and additions

Explicitly suited to residential alterations and additions where a uniform broadwall cladding solution is needed to tie a renovated or extended section of a building into a consistent facade appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between EasyLap™ Panel and Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding?
Both achieve a rendered-look facade finish, but through different means. EasyLap™ is a smooth, pre-primed panel that gets its textured, rendered appearance from a site-applied roll-on textured acrylic paint, an extra step in the finishing process. Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding has the fine sand texture already embedded into the panel during manufacture, meaning no site-applied texture coat is required. If the project timeline favours minimising site finishing work, Fine Texture Cladding is the faster option; EasyLap™ offers a cost-effective alternative where the site-applied texture step fits the build programme.
Yes. The EasyLap™ Panel is suitable for use as a substrate for external tiled wall applications, with strong hanging power capable of holding up to 50 kg of tiles per square metre. The shiplap join along the panel’s vertical edges makes it easier to install a level substrate for tiling and helps reduce the differential movement between panels that can result in grout cracking.
Yes. The EasyLap™ Panel is suitable for full or composite construction designs on either timber- or light-gauge steel-framed homes, making it a flexible specification across different residential construction methods.
The EasyLap™ Panel is available in multiple sizes, including 3600 mm lengths specifically suited to tall, continuous feature walls where minimising horizontal joints is important to the design outcome, such as double-height entries or stairwell facades.
