Lighter. Faster. Quieter. The Smarter Way to Build.

Brick and concrete have been the default wall and floor systems in Australian construction for generations. They work. But they’re heavy, they’re slow to lay, they demand skilled tradespeople and they offer limited performance on the metrics that matter most to the people actually living and working in the buildings: thermal comfort, acoustic separation and fire safety.

Hebel Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) is the alternative that addresses all of those things and adds one more: speed. Up to 60% faster to install than traditional masonry using Hebel’s patented Top Hat system. Non-combustible. Thermally efficient. Acoustically superior. And critically for Australian specifiers, the only AAC panels manufactured in Australia are backed by CSR with full NCC compliance documentation. CSP Architectural is your supply partner for the complete Hebel range.

Performance at a Glance

Non-combustible

All Hebel AAC panels are non-combustible and NCC-compliant across residential, commercial and civil applications. Fire Resistance Levels range from -/90/90 minutes (standard residential) to -/240/240 minutes (PowerShield civil systems). Suitable for BAL-rated zones and high-rise external wall cladding.

Thermal efficiency

The cellular air structure of AAC provides genuine thermal mass and insulation, significantly reducing heat transfer through walls and floors. Hebel panels help keep buildings cooler in summer and warmer in winter without additional insulation products in most climate zones.

Acoustic performance

Hebel outperforms standard masonry and timber framing on sound separation. Intertenancy and boundary wall systems are independently tested and documented for NCC acoustic compliance in Class 2 and Class 3 residential buildings, as well as commercial applications.

Up to 75% lighter than concrete

Reduced dead loads mean simpler foundations, fewer crane movements and panels that can be handled in restricted access conditions. On sloping sites, waterfront locations and urban infill projects where traditional masonry creates structural and logistical challenges, Hebel's weight advantage is a practical benefit that shows up in programme and cost.

The Hebel Product Range

The full Hebel catalogue spans AAC panels, blocks, flooring systems, decorative facade panels, fence systems and specialist civil barriers, organised across three segments by building type and application.

The best alternative to double brick for internal and external walls requiring a solid, rendered masonry aesthetic with outstanding insulation and non-combustible fire performance.

PowerFence®

A modular rendered fence system using 75mm-thick, 1800mm × 600mm steel-reinforced AAC panels with steel brackets and posts. Fast to install with no extensive excavation or strip footing required. Delivers the clean lines and privacy of a rendered masonry fence without the programme or cost of traditional brick or block construction.

PowerPanel®

The commercial-grade 75mm AAC panel for apartment facades, intertenancy walls and internal walls in mid to high-rise construction. Achieves FRL ratings of -/90/90 minutes (single mesh) to -/120/120 minutes (caged configuration). Custom-made-to-length to minimise cutting, crane movements and on-site waste.

PowerPanel+

Extra-thick, extra-long AAC panels for commercial and industrial construction with heavier structural demands and greater wall heights. The commercial-grade range spans 100mm to 300mm thick, providing fire resistance, acoustic separation and thermal performance beyond the residential-grade panel range.

PowerFloor+

Commercial-grade structural AAC floor panels for schools, offices, community centres and institutional buildings. It is significantly faster to install than in-situ concrete and has better acoustic performance than most alternative commercial floor systems at equivalent thickness.

PowerShield®

A high-performance fire- and acoustic-rated panel for power stations, substations, roadway tunnels and industrial infrastructure. PowerShield withstands heat to 1300°C and sustains the Hydrocarbon Modified (HCM) fire curve for 2 hours. Cellulosic FRL from -/120/120 to -/240/240 minutes.

SoundBarrier™

Dedicated acoustic wall panels for freeway, roadway and railway noise barriers. AAC construction delivers genuine acoustic mass performance without the weight and programme demands of precast concrete. Suitable for noise-sensitive residential and commercial areas adjacent to transport infrastructure.

Sourcing Hebel Through CSP Architectural

Specifying Hebel correctly requires understanding which product, thickness and system configuration meets the NCC’s fire, acoustic and thermal requirements for your specific building class and application. Our team works through those requirements with you from the start, so the specification is right before supply, not corrected after.

What Is Autoclaved Aerated Concrete?

AAC is a cellular concrete product made from sand, cement, lime, water and a small quantity of aluminium powder. When cured in a high-pressure steam autoclave, the mixture expands to produce a panel that is roughly 80% air by volume, which is where the thermal insulation, low weight and fire performance come from. Every panel is reinforced with steel mesh and an anti-corrosion coating for structural integrity and long-term durability.
The result is a building material that is genuinely lighter than masonry, genuinely better insulating, genuinely fire-resistant and genuinely faster to build with, not as a marketing claim but as a measured, testable property of the material itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CSR Hebel, and what makes it different from standard masonry or concrete?
CSR Hebel is a brand of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC), a cellular concrete material manufactured from sand, cement, lime and water with a small amount of aluminium powder, cured under high-pressure steam. The result is a panel that is approximately 80% air by volume, making it up to 75% lighter than equivalent concrete while maintaining non-combustible fire performance, strong acoustic separation and genuine thermal insulation. Hebel installs up to 60% faster than traditional masonry using the patented Top Hat system. It is the only AAC panel manufactured in Australia.
Hebel PowerPanelXL installs up to 60% faster than traditional masonry when using Hebel’s patented perforated Top Hat sections. The system allows large panels to be set and secured vertically without the course-by-course laying process of brick or block construction. Standard panel heights of 2400mm to 3300mm reduce on-site cutting and waste, further reducing labour time and material cost.
Yes. All Hebel AAC panels are non-combustible. PowerPanelXL achieves up to 3 hours of FRL and is rated for use in bushfire attack level (BAL) zones. PowerPanel for commercial applications achieves -/90/90 to -/120/120 minutes of FRL. PowerShield for civil infrastructure achieves -/120/120 to -/240/240 minutes. Specific fire resistance and BAL ratings depend on the product and installation configuration; contact our team for the documentation relevant to your project.
For residential facades and low-rise multi-residential, PowerPanelXL (75 mm) or PowerPanel50 (50 mm) are the primary choices. For textured residential facades, PowerPattern® provides V-groove and routed pattern options. For commercial apartment facades and intertenancy walls, PowerPanel or PowerPanel+ applies. For civil fire and acoustic barriers, PowerShield or SoundBarrier™ are the relevant systems. For flooring, PowerFloor® suits residential and PowerFloor+ suits commercial applications. Contact our team; we’ll confirm the right product and system for your NCC requirements.
Yes, and this is one of Hebel’s strongest applications in multi-residential construction. Hebel intertenancy wall systems provide tested fire resistance and acoustic separation that meets or exceeds NCC Class 2 building requirements. They are narrower than equivalent masonry and plasterboard alternatives, maximising usable floor area across a development. Tested FRL and acoustic data are available from our team.
