The Faster, Lighter Way to a Better Floor Base
The floor substrate is one of those building elements that nobody sees after the job is done, but everyone notices if it’s wrong. Tiles that crack eighteen months after completion. Vinyl that lifts at the joints. A floor that squeaks underfoot in the master bedroom. In almost every case, the finish product isn’t the problem. It’s what’s underneath.
Scyon® Secura™ Interior Flooring gives floor finishes the stable, moisture-resistant, dimensionally consistent base they need, in a format that installs up to 40% faster than conventional compressed fibre cement. Lighter than CFC, tongue-and-groove jointed, gun-nailable without pre-drilling, and dual-sided for either tiled or vinyl/carpet applications. Sealed on all sides. Weatherable for up to three months on site without warping or requiring replacement. Australian-made, 25-year product warranty.

Two Applications. One Product.
Secura™ Interior Flooring is dual-sided; each sheet has two distinct faces, each engineered for a different floor finish system. This is what the Scyon® technology delivers: a single product that eliminates the need to select and stock separate substrates for tile and vinyl applications.
Tile face
with sealant gap
One face of the Secura™ sheet includes a sealant gap in the tongue-and-groove joint, providing the joint gap that cement-based tile adhesive systems require for movement accommodation. Install this face up for any tiled floor application in wet or dry areas.
Vinyl/carpet face
gapless joint
The other face has a gapless tongue-and-groove joint, ideal for vinyl or carpet applications where a flush, continuous surface without any joint gap is required. Secura™ also eliminates the need for a separate vinyl underlay when used on this face, removing a trade step and reducing floor system cost.
Where Secura™ Interior Flooring Works
Residential suspended ground floors
The primary application for Secura™ Interior Flooring is over timber or steel floor joists in residential construction. The tongue-and-groove system eliminates timber trimmers under joints, and the gun-nail fixing means no pre-drilling, contributing to the up-to-40% installation time saving over compressed fibre cement. Available in 19mm for standard 450mm joist centres.
Wet area floors - bathrooms and laundries
Secura™ Interior Flooring is sealed on all four sides and moisture-resistant throughout, suitable for wet area floor applications in bathrooms and laundries when the tile face is used with a compliant waterproofing membrane over the sheet. The advanced polymer coating on all sides provides the moisture protection that particle board and plywood substrates can’t deliver.
Dry area floors - bedrooms and living areas
In dry-area floor applications, the vinyl/carpet face of Secura™ eliminates the need for a separate vinyl underlay, reducing material cost and a trade step. Carpet and floating timber floors can also be installed over Secura™ Interior Flooring, giving specifiers a single substrate product for multiple finish types across a project.
Fast-programme residential projects
The up-to-40% installation time saving over CFC is particularly valuable on volume residential projects where floor substrate installation is a critical path item. Gun-nail fixing, no pre-drilling, no timber trimmers under joints and the dual-face format that removes the need for separate vinyl underlay all contribute to faster programme completion.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Scyon® technology and why does it make Secura™ lighter?
Scyon® is James Hardie’s advanced cement composite technology that produces a lower-density fibre cement product than conventional compressed fibre cement manufacturing. Secura™ Interior Flooring made from Scyon® is approximately 24% lower in density than an equivalent CFC sheet, making it lighter to handle on site, easier to cut and manageable with gun-nail fixing without pre-drilling. Despite the lower density, Scyon® products maintain the durability, moisture resistance and fire performance of conventional fibre cement.
Do I still need a waterproofing membrane in wet area floor applications?
Yes. Secura™ Interior Flooring is moisture-resistant; the advanced polymer coating on all four sides means the sheet won’t warp or deteriorate if it gets wet, but it is not a waterproof membrane. A compliant waterproofing membrane must be applied over Secura™ in wet area floor applications as required by AS 3740 and the NCC. The moisture resistance of Secura™ means the substrate continues to perform even if there is a waterproofing failure, but the membrane is still required.
Can Secura™ Interior Flooring be used over underfloor heating?
Yes. Secura™ Interior Flooring is compatible with underfloor heating systems. The fixing method and maximum temperature should be confirmed against the specific underfloor heating system’s requirements and the James Hardie™ installation guide for Secura™ Interior Flooring. Fibre cement’s thermal properties make it an effective conductor for radiant heat, and its dimensional stability under temperature cycling is a genuine advantage over timber-based substrates in the same application.
What is the difference between 19mm and 22mm Secura™?
The 19mm thickness is suitable for 450mm floor joist centres, the standard spacing for most residential timber and steel floor joist systems. The 22mm thickness provides greater structural depth for wider joist centres or applications requiring additional floor stiffness. The 22mm sheet is also available in the 2400mm × 600mm size, which the 19mm sheet is not. Confirm the required thickness for your specific joist spacing against the James Hardie™ Secura™ installation guide.
