The Detail That Finishes the Facade Properly

A cladding system is only as good as its finishing details. The window surrounds, the internal and external corners, the butt joints, and the batten rhythm of a board-and-batten design – these are the elements that separate a facade that looks genuinely resolved from one that looks like the cladding simply stopped at the edges. Hardie™ Axent™ Trim is the purpose-designed fibre cement trim range that completes the Hardie™ Exteriors system properly.

Made from the same Hardie™ fibre cement as the cladding it complements, Axent™ Trim is resistant to shrinking, swelling and warping, meaning it weathers and holds paint the same way the cladding does, rather than becoming a mismatched detail over time as timber trim would. Available in multiple thickness options, the depth of Axent™ Trim creates the impression of solidness and crisp, clean edges, with the 38mm thickness specifically suited to overlapping Linea™ Weatherboard.

What Axent™ Trim Does on a Facade

Board and batten battens

Fixed vertically over Hardie™ Flex Sheet or other flat panel cladding, Axent™ Trim creates the batten element of a board-and-batten design. Spacing is a design decision made on site, giving architects genuine creative control over the final facade rhythm.

Window and door frame edge treatment

Axent™ Trim provides a clean, considered edge treatment around window and door openings; cladding can either be butted to the trim or installed overlapping it, depending on the desired detail and the specific cladding profile being used.

Internal and external corners

A finishing touch to cladding at internal and external corner junctions, concealing the raw board edge and creating a crisp, deliberate corner detail rather than a visible cut edge.

Butt joint enhancement

Used as a design enhancer at butt joints, Axent™ Trim can turn what would otherwise be a simple functional joint into a considered architectural detail, particularly effective when the trim is painted in a contrasting colour to the cladding.

The Hamptons Detail - Contrasting Trim

One of the most common and effective uses of Axent™ Trim is as a contrasting element against Linea™ Weatherboard, the classic Hamptons and coastal architectural detail where crisp white (or another contrasting colour) trim frames dark- or mid-tone weatherboard cladding. Because Axent™ Trim is made from the same fibre cement material as the cladding, it weathers, holds paint and ages consistently with the rest of the facade, avoiding the mismatched weathering that occurs when timber trim is used against fibre cement cladding, or vice versa.

Frequently Asked Questions

What thickness of Axent™ Trim should I use with Linea™ Weatherboard?
The 38 mm thickness of Hardie™ Axent™ Trim is specifically noted as working well with overlapping Linea™ Weatherboard, the greater depth matches the substantial 16 mm thickness of Linea™ and creates the crisp, solid-looking edge detail that suits the deep-shadow Linea™ aesthetic. Other thickness options are available for use with thinner cladding profiles, confirm the appropriate thickness for your specific cladding pairing with our team.
Axent™ Trim is most commonly paired with Hardie™ Flex Sheet as the flat base panel for board and batten design, but the trim system is compatible with a range of Hardie™ Exteriors cladding products. Batten spacing is a design decision made to suit the project’s specific aesthetic requirements; refer to the current Axent™ Trim installation guide for recommended spacing parameters.
Yes. Axent™ Trim is pre-sealed but must be dry before painting; it is not supplied in a fully finished, ready-to-install-and-forget state. Where fastener heads are filled, priming of the filled and sanded patches may be required, depending on the paint manufacturer’s specifications. Refer to the current installation guide for the specific painting preparation sequence.
Yes. Axent™ Trim is designed to provide a finishing touch to cladding at both internal and external corner junctions, concealing the raw edge of the cladding board and creating a clean, deliberate corner detail. This is one of its core applications alongside battens, window surrounds and butt joint detailing.
