Heritage Character, Modern Installation Speed
Matching the weatherboard profile on a period home, the specific shadow line, the specific bevel, and the specific rebate that defines a Californian bungalow, an Edwardian cottage or a Federation-era house is one of the more exacting specification challenges in residential renovation and character-matched new construction. PrimeLine™ Weatherboard is James Hardie’s answer to that challenge: a durable range of 9mm thick weatherboards, milled into multiple profiles specifically designed to match the classic lines of heritage weatherboard homes, without the wonkiness, movement and maintenance burden of the original timber.
Four distinct profiles, Chamfer, Newport, Heritage and Summit, each with a specific shadow line character. Several are compatible with the HardieLock™ fixing system for fast lap alignment, and multiple profiles come in double board height for genuinely faster installation than single-board-height alternatives.

Choosing the Right PrimeLine™ Profile
Chamfer
Clean lines in a double board height format for fast installation, a straightforward, classic weatherboard profile that suits a broad range of character and traditional home styles without a highly specific heritage reference.
Newport
Narrow boards with a rebate that deepens the overlap shadow line, compatible with the HardieLock™ system for fast lap alignment. The rebate detail gives Newport a more refined, deliberate shadow character than a standard chamfer profile.
Heritage
A rebated edge profile in double board height for fast installation, specifically designed to reference heritage weatherboard character with an extra layer of shadow-line detail from the rebate, is suited to period home renovations and character-matched extensions.
Summit
A slender beaded edge with a strong lap line, compatible with the HardieLock™ system for fast installation. The beaded detail gives Summit a distinct profile among the four options, a slightly more refined, decorative shadow line than Chamfer.
Where PrimeLine™ Weatherboard Works
Heritage and character home renovations
Where an existing period home, a Federation Californian bungalow or an Edwardian cottage, needs weatherboard repairs, extensions or full re-cladding, PrimeLine™’s milled profiles are specifically designed to match the classic weatherboard lines these building styles are known for.
Period-influenced new builds
New residential construction designed to evoke a heritage or character aesthetic, a common brief in established, heritage-conscious suburbs, can achieve that visual language using PrimeLine™’s profile range without the maintenance burden of actual period timber weatherboarding.
Fast-programme character projects
The HardieLock™ system (Newport and Summit) and double-board-height options (Chamfer and Heritage) both target installation speed, which is relevant on renovation projects where minimising on-site construction time and disruption matters as much as achieving the correct heritage character.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the HardieLock™ system, and which PrimeLine™ profiles use it?
HardieLock™ is a fixing system designed for fast lap alignment during installation; it speeds up the process of correctly positioning and fixing each successive weatherboard. Among the PrimeLine™ profiles, Newport and Summit are compatible with the HardieLock™ system. Chamfer and Heritage instead achieve installation speed through their double-board height format.
Which PrimeLine™ profile best matches a Federation or Californian bungalow's weatherboard?
The Heritage profile, with its rebated edge and deeper shadow line character, is specifically designed to reference classic heritage weatherboard proportions and is a strong starting point for Federation and Californian bungalow character matching. However, exact heritage profile matching often benefits from a site assessment of the existing weatherboard. Contact our team to discuss the specific profile requirements for your renovation or heritage-matched project.
Is PrimeLine™ Weatherboard suitable for full new home construction or only renovations?
Both. While PrimeLine™ is frequently specified for heritage home renovations and character-matched extensions, it’s equally suitable for full new home construction where a period-influenced weatherboard aesthetic is the design brief, a common choice in heritage-conscious or character-zoned suburbs.
What thickness is PrimeLine™ Weatherboard?
PrimeLine™ Weatherboard is 9mm thick across all four profile options (Chamfer, Newport, Heritage, and Summit), thinner than Linea™ Weatherboard (16mm) but with the specific milled profile detailing that gives each PrimeLine™ option its distinct heritage character.
